Atlantic All-Star

All-Star Preview: Team Atlantic

The New York Excel – I mean, the Atlantic All-Star team – is one of the most stacked rosters that Overwatch has ever seen. The team is headlined by league MVP Seong-Hyun “JJoNaK” Bang. With JJoNaK, half of NYXL, and some big name reserves, the Atlantic team certainly has star power. Against a scrappy and unpredictable Pacific lineup, though what will it take for the Atlantic team to secure the victory? Read more …

OWL MVP: Is JJonak the real MVP?

Sports will always have an MVP. The player with the most impact, whether it be on any given day, month, season, or postseason. OWL is no different. Last week,  JJonak of the NYXL, and Zenyatta fame, was elected as the League’s MVP. JJonak won over the likes of Fissure (main tank, Gladiators) [my vote], Fleta (DPS, Dynasty), and a handful of others including, NYXL teammate Saebyeolbe. Read more …

Fusion Smelt Excelsior In Upset Semi-Final Blowout

The first Semi-final match of the Inaugural Season of the Overwatch League pitted the #1 seed New York Excelsior versus the #6 placing Philadelphia Fusion in what promised to be a classic northeast style brawl. The NYXL roster is chocked with the highest level of players, including the Overwatch League MVP Jjonak, and are the statistical favorites to become the Season 1 Champions, but that was a patch and over a month ago…

New York Excelsior – Playoff Breakdown

The New York Excelsior entered the season widely considered the underdogs of the Eastern-rostered teams, with their previous claim to fame being a loss in Apex Season 2 to what would become the Seoul Dynasty team. The team was widely dismissed as having no real chance at the season playoffs, with a reputation of being unable to close when it mattered most. At the end of the Inaugural Overwatch League Season, however, it is the New York Excelsior as the top seed going into the season playoffs. This is not an overnight success story, so let’s take a look at how we got here in order to help us see where we are going.

Watch Out (S3W4): The Boston Uprising Seek Perfection as the Fusion Fight for Fourth

With the end of the stage approaching once again, teams are in a mad dash to secure their spot in the newly expanded 4-team playoff bracket. The Boston Uprising, NYXL and LA Valiant all seem like shoe-ins, but there’s still one more spot to consider.

Fourth place is now the most hotly contested spot in the Overwatch League, and the middle of the pack will need to step up in a big way to secure their place before playoffs come. San Francisco, Seoul, Philly, Houston, London, and the Gladiators are all within a couple maps of each other, so anyone could steal the last spot away by the time the week is through. That’s assuming we don’t see any upsets this week, either… I don’t know if I’d bet on that. Especially once you read this.  Read more …

Overwatch League: Has the Korean advantage leveled out?

This weekend the Overwatch League finished the second week of Stage 3. The Los Angeles Valiant (#VALLA) won their 3rd and 4th matches of the stage to remain undefeated. Boston Uprising won a couple high profile matches to improve to 4-0 as well. 3 of the top 4 teams in the new Stage Playoff format are currently Western rosters, while the full-Korean rosters (NYXL, Seoul Dynasty, and London Spitfire) went a combined 3-3 on the week.
