Minority Report: The True California Cup Champions

In this week’s Minority Report, Briggsy recaps her experiences at both California Cup showmatches between the Los Angeles Valiant and the San Francisco Shock. The true champions, we find out, aren’t necessarily the players – especially when things get rough.

College is about making mistakes. My mistake was going to college.

I grew up watching movies and nonfiction testimonials about college sororities providing lifelong bonds, fun parties that would become stories to tell my grandkids, and classes that were engaging and interactive to prepare me for a lifetime of success. I was excited to start this new chapter in my life after enduring a rather miserable high school experience. Turns out not much changes after high school. In college, I didn’t fit in, the material didn’t interest me, and most of my time was spent dealing with lecherous instructors and abusive relationships. I left unceremoniously after I simply stopped going to classes.

Minority Report Profiles: LA Valiant’s Jun-Hyeok “Bunny” Chae

Forgive my absence, folks.

I had a hell of a few weeks, so much so that I write this with literally no voice and sheer willpower. My time at California Cup was interesting, to say the least, and one of the highlights of my experience there was being able to talk to Jun-Hyeok “Bunny” Chae from the Los Angeles Valiant. Once known for being a Tracer one-trick, Bunny has been spending his offseason practicing other hitscan heroes and hoping to truly make his mark once again in Overwatch League. And from what I’ve seen from his streams, I’ve no doubt this will be the case. I was joined by Bunny and translator Andrew Kim for this interview.

The Seoul Dynasty are in for a Hell of a Week as Houston’s Hot Streak is Put to the Test: Watch Out! (S4W2)

What a stage it’s been so far, huh? I kinda (and by kinda I mean definitely) regret missing Watch Out last week, but final exams wait for no man, even if there were amazing Overwatch games to cover. With those finals now totally (hopefully) passed, it’s time to take a look at this week’s matches!

Watch Out (S3W5): The Houston Outlaws are Pushing for a Playoff Spot, but so is Everyone Else!

Are we at the end of another stage again? Already? This is ridiculous!

I know the progression of time is linear and all that, but it certainly doesn’t feel like it these days, especially in the Overwatch League. Week after week, these games seem to fly by- but I suppose that’s why I’m here, right? To slow things down a bit, and show you all the best bits to keep an eye on as we hurtle through time and space. Well don’t worry! I’ve gone and done exactly that. Read on.  Read more …

My Time at the LA Valiant Fan Art Showcase

It was a cool Friday evening when I got out the car next to the Gallery Nucleus. Heading indoors, I was met with the Overwatch soundtrack playing lightly over the speakers. I walked past the front area, art for sale lining the shelves. Entering into the main foyer on the bottom floor, I was greeted by all things LA Valiant. A small wall displaying art by the fans and a giant wall made for Valiant themed photos are the first things I see. Read more …

Watch Out (S3W4): The Boston Uprising Seek Perfection as the Fusion Fight for Fourth

With the end of the stage approaching once again, teams are in a mad dash to secure their spot in the newly expanded 4-team playoff bracket. The Boston Uprising, NYXL and LA Valiant all seem like shoe-ins, but there’s still one more spot to consider.

Fourth place is now the most hotly contested spot in the Overwatch League, and the middle of the pack will need to step up in a big way to secure their place before playoffs come. San Francisco, Seoul, Philly, Houston, London, and the Gladiators are all within a couple maps of each other, so anyone could steal the last spot away by the time the week is through. That’s assuming we don’t see any upsets this week, either… I don’t know if I’d bet on that. Especially once you read this.  Read more …

Watch Out (S3W3): The Dallas Fuel could Oust the Outlaws as the LA Valiant fight for the Homeland

We knew there were big changes coming for the Overwatch League last week. I don’t think anyone was ready for this, though. Boston’s upset over New York on Thursday was electric, and it only got crazier from there. Saturday was one of the most impressive showings of the season, with all three games that day going to a tiebreaker. What a week!

This week could be even better. I’m faced with a bit of a dilemma, honestly. There are just too many good matches. I guess I’ll just have to tell you about all of them? Yeah, sorry, I know. How dreadful. Don’t worry, we’ll get through this together.

Watch Out (S3W2): LA Valiant on the Rise as Boston Picks Up the Pieces

Well, it’s been a busy week for the Overwatch League. Last week’s games surprised just about everybody- that Valiant 4-0 against the Dynasty? Or Boston’s, against the apparently-struggling Outlaws? It looks like teams are getting a fresh start this stage, and that means big changes are on the horizon. It couldn’t come at a better time for some teams- or at a worse time, for others.   Read more …
