Laughing, Crying, Remembering: A Weekend with my Esports Family

Laughter

If you followed the Overwatch League All-Star game this weekend, then you definitely laughed at least once. Whether it was while Custa and Bischu were giggling through casting, or while watching Reinforce literally carry his team to victory – we all found moments that made us smile. Constantly, I would catch myself laughing or simply sitting with a constant grin on my face. After a while, I got to thinking. Why is this whole experience so wholesome and familiar to me? Where are these feelings of nostalgia coming from? Why do I want to cry tears of happiness when Mickie does literally anything? Read more …

Overwatch League All Star Weekend Predictions: The Frog Queen Reigns Supreme

Overwatch is stressful. Sometimes, you just need to quit competitive mode and play some arcade. That mindset was used to think up the All-Star Weekend exhibition matches closing out Season 1 of the Overwatch League. On August 25th, 36 players – 18 from each division, Atlantic and Pacific — will be taking on games a little more fun than the high-stakes Overwatch they’re used to playing. We’re breaking down the game modes you’ll be watching and the players you should be paying attention to.

All-Star Preview: Pacific Team

All-Star Preview: Team Pacific

The Pacific All-Star Team hopes to channel their fiery mascot and light up early against Team Atlantic. Team Pacific boasts a much more diverse roster than their counterparts, with four different teams in their starting six. Of these, they will be looking to the tank line of Seyeon “Geguri” Kim and Chan-Hyung “Fissure” Baek to be the anchors of the team. However, it will take much more than the protection from these two tanks if the Pacific side wants to slay Goliath. Read more …

London Spitfire vs. LA Valiant: An Aerial Affair

Chants of “Wings Out” pierced the walls of the casting booth on the second day of the Semifinals. The LA Valiant and London Spitfire were ready to fight for the chance to book their ticket to Brooklyn and the inaugural Overwatch League Grand Finals. Over the chants, Mitch “Uber” Leslie quipped to his casting partner Matt “Mr. X” Morello: “Only one team can take flight.” Read more …

Watch Out (S3W5): The Houston Outlaws are Pushing for a Playoff Spot, but so is Everyone Else!

Are we at the end of another stage again? Already? This is ridiculous!

I know the progression of time is linear and all that, but it certainly doesn’t feel like it these days, especially in the Overwatch League. Week after week, these games seem to fly by- but I suppose that’s why I’m here, right? To slow things down a bit, and show you all the best bits to keep an eye on as we hurtle through time and space. Well don’t worry! I’ve gone and done exactly that. Read on.  Read more …

My Time at the LA Valiant Fan Art Showcase

It was a cool Friday evening when I got out the car next to the Gallery Nucleus. Heading indoors, I was met with the Overwatch soundtrack playing lightly over the speakers. I walked past the front area, art for sale lining the shelves. Entering into the main foyer on the bottom floor, I was greeted by all things LA Valiant. A small wall displaying art by the fans and a giant wall made for Valiant themed photos are the first things I see. Read more …

Watch Out (S3W3): The Dallas Fuel could Oust the Outlaws as the LA Valiant fight for the Homeland

We knew there were big changes coming for the Overwatch League last week. I don’t think anyone was ready for this, though. Boston’s upset over New York on Thursday was electric, and it only got crazier from there. Saturday was one of the most impressive showings of the season, with all three games that day going to a tiebreaker. What a week!

This week could be even better. I’m faced with a bit of a dilemma, honestly. There are just too many good matches. I guess I’ll just have to tell you about all of them? Yeah, sorry, I know. How dreadful. Don’t worry, we’ll get through this together.
