No such thing as impossible. The news hit Twitter totally unexpected today at 11:44am CEST. While America was still sleeping at this time, possibly every single European Overwatch fan was screaming with joy. Paris’s OWL Expansion team reveals a European roster with players from the EU only!

The current roster has been announced as follows, as per this tweet

Benjamin “BenBest” Dieulafait – Tank

Roni “LhCloudy” Tiihonen – Tank

Finnbjörn “Finnsi” Jónasson – Tank

Nicolas “NiCO” Moret – DPS

Karol “Danye” Szcześniak – DPS

Terence “SoOn” Tarlier – DPS

George “ShaDowBurn” Gushcha – DPS

Damien “HyP” Souville – Support

Harrison “Kruise” Pond – Support

DPS

We find two former Rogue players, SoOn and NiCO, in the team, with the addition of ShaDowBurn. SoOn paired with either of them can only make for a terrifying DPS duo.

Danye is a true flex player, playing either hitscan or projectile DPS heroes, and while possibly not a starter to begin with, could prove to be a perfect pickup for specific situations. Plus, being in the Overwatch League might give him the place to develop further and become a great player.

Tank

The tank line-up is another great pick. BenBest has shown a lot of potential during this year’s World Cup, being France’s main tank. The synergy with NiCo and SoOn can only help.

LHCloudy, possibly a backup player, was part of the Team Gigantti roster that made the second place in Contenders Europe Season 1, and is a solid tank player that also has a bright future.

Finnsi has not seen any playtime for his previous team, the Los Angeles Valiant, but he is regarded as one of the best EU off-tank players in the scene. With the ability to flex to DPS if needed, he should be a great player to have in the starting roster.

Support

The support line looks solid as well, with veteran Kruise who has been around since open beta days and he also won Contenders Europe Season 0 with eUnited. HyP is an up and coming talent, who recently won Contenders Europe Season 2 with Eagle Gaming, and is a great flex support (Ana and Zenyatta).

Even though the team could do with one more support player as a backup, the image in the tweet does show one more player without a face and name, so we can possibly expect one more addition after BlizzCon.

As for the staff, daemoN, previously coaching for the Los Angeles Valiant, will be the Head Coach for the new Paris franchise, while Mex, the ex-Rogue manager, will be the team’s General Manager.

The European fans are hyped with this announcement, and rightly so. The team looks great on paper, and can definitely develop into a great team. If they can take on established OWL teams and even make it to Stage Playoffs? Time will tell, or as the french say “Qui vivra verra”.
