Dallas Fuel announced their new head coach just a day before Stage Four begins in Overwatch League. The Fuel have had a tough time of it, but continue to be a crowd favorite. Here are the details on bringing Aaron “Aero” Atkins in as the new coach.

DALLAS (May 15, 2018) – The Dallas Fuel signed Aaron “Aero” Atkins as the franchise’s next head coach in the Overwatch League. Atkins had served as head coach of Fusion University, a team that he led to an undefeated regular season in Overwatch Contenders 2018 Season 1: North America. His Fusion University team won the North America championship for Overwatch Contenders 2018 Season 1 recently at the Grand Finals in Poland. Atkins, who signed a multiyear contract with the Fuel, will join the Dallas Fuel immediately.

Prior to coaching Fusion University, Atkins worked as head coach for FNRGFE and also coached the Overwatch rosters for Team SoloMid and Immortals. 12 of Atkins’ former players are currently playing in the Overwatch League.

“We have a lot of respect for the success Aaron has achieved as a coach in competitive Overwatch. His work this year with Fusion University speaks for itself, putting together an undefeated run with players from across the globe who are playing together for the first time. And when we won Overwatch Contenders in 2017 as Team Envy, I remember being impressed by how focused and prepared Aaron had the FNRGFE team we faced in the playoffs. We’re excited to bring his mentality, track record of winning, and the cerebral way in which he approaches the game to the Dallas Fuel,” said Mike Rufail, owner of the Dallas Fuel.

Atkins’ success as a coach includes an undefeated regular season in Overwatch Contenders 2018, winning the Overwatch BEAT Invitational – Season 3 and the Overwatch PIT Championship – North America, and a championship at the NGE Overwatch Winter Premiere. He is experienced working with internationally diverse rosters and is widely respected as an Overwatch analyst.

“I want to build teams that are going to be the best in the world,” said Atkins. “I strive to make sure my players are the best they possibly can be – both in how they prepare and perform in any given week, but also so they are ready down the line, six months or a year from now. Dallas has the components to be great, and I’m thrilled to go to work with the Fuel in the Overwatch League.”

The Fuel’s initial contract with Atkins extends through Season 2 of the Overwatch League. With the addition of Atkins as head coach, Dallas Fuel interim head coach Emanuel “Peak” Uzoni will resume his previous role as an assistant coach for the team. Kang “Vol’Jin” Min-Gyu, formerly of Meta Gaming in Korea, also recently joined the Dallas Fuel as an assistant coach.

The Dallas Fuel begin Stage 4 in the Overwatch League in a match against the Shanghai Dragons on Wednesday, May 16.
