Minority Report: I Am Not Your Brown Person

I don’t think I’ve experienced anything more polarizing than Blizzcon.

I tried and failed several times to write a Minority Report feature on it. Why wouldn’t I? It was my first Blizzcon, it was on my birthday, and my best friends surprised me with a supreme Brigitte armor set, complete with a mace to put directly in your face. I expected to write about me cheering for Australia instead of USA during World Cup (I was made an honorary Australian, don’t @ me), being pissed that Ashe was the new character (B.O.B is cool though), and struggling, first-world-problems style, with how the Brigitte armor significantly decreased my New York walking speed (I was called “Speedy” in high school for a reason). The whole weekend went by in a flash, but I remember a lot of smiles, a lot of incredible support for my cosplay, and a lot of time surrounded by the best friends a woman could ask for.

Minority Report: The True California Cup Champions

In this week’s Minority Report, Briggsy recaps her experiences at both California Cup showmatches between the Los Angeles Valiant and the San Francisco Shock. The true champions, we find out, aren’t necessarily the players – especially when things get rough.

College is about making mistakes. My mistake was going to college.

I grew up watching movies and nonfiction testimonials about college sororities providing lifelong bonds, fun parties that would become stories to tell my grandkids, and classes that were engaging and interactive to prepare me for a lifetime of success. I was excited to start this new chapter in my life after enduring a rather miserable high school experience. Turns out not much changes after high school. In college, I didn’t fit in, the material didn’t interest me, and most of my time was spent dealing with lecherous instructors and abusive relationships. I left unceremoniously after I simply stopped going to classes.

Minority Report Profiles: LA Valiant’s Jun-Hyeok “Bunny” Chae

Forgive my absence, folks.

I had a hell of a few weeks, so much so that I write this with literally no voice and sheer willpower. My time at California Cup was interesting, to say the least, and one of the highlights of my experience there was being able to talk to Jun-Hyeok “Bunny” Chae from the Los Angeles Valiant. Once known for being a Tracer one-trick, Bunny has been spending his offseason practicing other hitscan heroes and hoping to truly make his mark once again in Overwatch League. And from what I’ve seen from his streams, I’ve no doubt this will be the case. I was joined by Bunny and translator Andrew Kim for this interview.

Minority Report: The Super Fans Speak Out

One of my favorite songs of all time is “Distractions” by Zero 7. In that song, the singer describes her habit of doing something that I do all of the time: instead of expressing her deepest appreciation for someone she loves and cares about, she instead makes fun, actively goes out of her way to warn them that she is nothing but trouble through self-deprecation, and ultimately hides her strong feelings behind her humor. One particular line makes this explicitly clear:

“I only make jokes to distract myself from the truth.”

Overwatch League Stage

Overwatch League Minority Report: The Loudest Minority

I’ve always hated my voice.

Depending on the day, it varies between contralto with hints of Philadelphia, New York, and Trinidadian accents, and that of a 12-year-old boy with strep throat who’s also going through puberty. I understand, to a point, how people could mistake my gender by hearing my voice without seeing my face. With time, I was able to shrug it off without feeling too offended. After all, I don’t think accidentally being considered male is offensive, unless it’s deliberately used to mock my femininity.

And then, there was Overwatch.

Sharpen Your Spurs, Outlaws- the Dallas Fuel Are Coming: Watch Out! S4W4

This. Week. Phew. We have got some intense Overwatch ahead of us.

I think the end of the season is really starting to hit me. It feels like I wrote the first Watch Out a week or two ago, not during Christmas… the passage of time sure is something, eh?
