Overwatch League has added three new Chinese teams during the expansion. Each has their own unique storyline going into this season. The Chinese region has an increased global attraction after the success of their 2018 World Cup team as well as the powerful rosters within their Contenders region. Here are two things each team should look for this upcoming season.
At the start of Overwatch Chinese Contenders (OWCC) Season 3, quite a few people were excited to see what the region could offer. To many, hot off the hype from China’s great performance in the Overwatch World Cup, it seemed as good of a time as any to begin watching the region. While the current season was hindered slightly by things out of its control (teams folding, talent going to Overwatch League, and the rosterpocalypse) it still managed to produce some games that are well worth going back and watching. Here are Kenobi’s Top 5 games of the Chinese Contenders Regular Season 3. (Bonus: Youtube links to VODs are provided!)
In some esports, there is a mindset that South Korean players are the best in the world. They are the most mechanically gifted, they are the smartest, and they come from the birthplace of esports as we know it today. The best of the best usually hail from South Korea, and Overwatch has not been an exception to the rule. With the South Korean talent that we have in Overwatch, they have built themselves quite the reputation since the birth of Overwatch as an esport.
When the Overwatch League began I remember watching a few Los Angeles Gladiators matches and thinking to myself “Man, this team seems to have a lot of good pieces but something seems to be missing with their main tank play.” In Stage 1 the Gladiators had a few shining moments but were a very middle of the pack team. They finished 8th with a few good wins under their belt but they weren’t able to make much of an impact. However, things changed throughout the season and now they are looking at the playoffs.
Overwatch League continued into week three of Stage Four. We are seeing more teams win quickly and pick up maps as the scores indicate a sprint to the finish to make the playoffs. Here is how the night went.
