OWL Stage One Playoffs: Vancouver Titans Take the Win

Vancouver Titans 4-3 San Francisco Shock

This weekend saw the culmination of the first stage of Overwatch League’s second season. Eight teams entered after finishing atop the standings during Stage One, but only one could be crowned winner and walk away with the lion’s share of the $500,000 on the line ($200,000 for 1st place). Every analyst saw this coming down to an inevitable Titans v Excelsior finish…they got that half right, as the Titans were there, but joined by the San Francisco Shock. Read more …

OWL Power Rankings through February

End of February OWL Power Rankings

The season has kicked off with surprises all around. The new GOATS meta has adjusted the Power Rankings pretty quickly (and dramatically). No longer do teams with a collection of individually skilled players sit atop the standings. In Season Two the most important quality to have is cohesive communications.

Before the season started some of the teams which reigned supreme last year saw themselves on top of many analyst and fans power rankings. Those teams often succeeded so well due to their having very highly skilled individual players. This year, London, both Los Angeles teams, the San Francisco Shock, and even the Philly Fusion have struggled, despite having some of the most skilled rosters. NYXL still remains at the top of the standings, as their communications have been on point, while teams like Paris, Vancouver, and even Toronto have surprised due to their cohesive game-play.

So here’s the breakdown of how I see the league broken up at this time, and how that’s changed since the preseason. Read more …

Overwatch Score’s Way Too Early OWL Power Rankings

The off-season is drawing to a close. The season approaches. That light blue and orange on the horizon? That’s the London Spitfire leading the charge. Champions of the Inaugural season. There is no reason to think the Spitfire won’t come back with the same fire and adaptability that they possessed last year; and yet, do they have new contenders for the title?

Will the season start with the familiar names out on top: Valiant, NYXL, Fusion, even Seoul? Or will the second season see the rise of new names? The Vancouver RunAway…er I mean Canucks…er, sorry the colours, I mean Titans, perhaps. Could the blue and orange be replaced by a wave of green and…a different blue?

These are OverwatchScore’s “Way Too Early” power rankings (with some adjustment by me, RogueBludger).

Believe The Hype: Meet Team Canada

This is the first in a series of articles hyping up teams that have made it to the finals of the Overwatch World Cup 2018. Each week, we’ll be posting two teams that are looking to fight it out at Blizzcon! This week is Team Canada and Team France.

Oh Canada, the great white North, NA’s 2017 Overwatch World Cup golden boys. Can 2018 be the year they repeat their incredible run through the brackets for another chance at the title? South Korea, last year’s champions, will start out on the other half of the final Eight, and very likely could prove to be Canada’s final hurdle once again. To reach the finals in November, Team Canada will have to advance past both France and the winner of the China vs. Finland match. Once there, Canada could likely face South Korea again, but may meet team USA, team UK, or the Aussies. Read more …

OWL MVP: Is JJonak the real MVP?

Sports will always have an MVP. The player with the most impact, whether it be on any given day, month, season, or postseason. OWL is no different. Last week,  JJonak of the NYXL, and Zenyatta fame, was elected as the League’s MVP. JJonak won over the likes of Fissure (main tank, Gladiators) [my vote], Fleta (DPS, Dynasty), and a handful of others including, NYXL teammate Saebyeolbe. Read more …

OWL Semi-Finals: LA Valiant vs London Spitfire – The Upsets just keep coming

The Overwatch League’s Playoffs have been a roller-coaster so far. The first round was an unpredictable rodeo, and the Semi-Final round started with even more upsets and excitement. London Spitfire took on Los Angeles Valiant in the final match on day 1 of the Semi-Finals. Could the Spitfire continue their decimation of the LA teams on their way to the Finals? As the dust settled, London emerged victorious, going into their Thursday matches with Los Angeles up 1-0. Read more …
